The Perfect Sleep: Mastering Your Pillow's Air Comfort

The Perfect Sleep: Mastering Your Pillow's Air Comfort

When you invest in an adjustable air pillow, you unlock a level of personal comfort that traditional pillows simply can't match. However, adjusting the air for your optimal support is key, and it might take a little trial and error to truly perfect.

Think of your pillow adjustment as fine-tuning your path to the perfect night’s sleep. Here are our top tips for finding your comfort sweet spot:

Finding Your Starting Point: Back vs. Side Sleepers

Your sleeping position significantly impacts how much air you need. This is a great place to start your experimentation:

  • Side Sleepers: Since more of your head's surface area rests on the pillow, you generally need a little less air. This allows the pillow to cradle and conform to the curve between your neck and shoulder.
  • Back Sleepers: With less area of your head directly contacting the pillow, you usually need a little more air for full neck and head support.

The most comfortable setup for most people is when you have very little to no air directly where your head touches the pillow. The remaining air should be gently pushed (squished) to either side, supporting your head and neck from the edges. As you move throughout the night, the air moves with you, giving you continuous support.

Firmness Preference: The Final Adjustment

Once you've established your base amount of air based on your sleeping position, you can fine-tune for firmness:

  • If you prefer a firmer pillow, add a little more air.
  • If you prefer a softer, more conforming pillow, use a little less air.

Expert Tip: The Flat Surface Demo (A Quick Guide)

A great way to visualise the air quantity is to use a flat surface:

  1. Place the inflatable air bag (outside of the pillow cover) on a flat surface like a table.
  2. Place a single flat palm in the middle - this simulates the air quantity needed for Back Sleepers.
  3. Place two hands flat, side-by-side in the middle -this simulates the air quantity needed for Side Sleepers.

Use these hand placements as a guide to inflate your pillow. Remember, this is only a starting point! If your first few nights are a struggle, be encouraged to experiment further until you find that perfect personal balance.

Pro-Tip: Inserting the Air Bag Easily

Don't wrestle with your pillowcase! Inserting the airbag can be tricky, but there’s a simple trick:Hold one of the short ends of the air bag in your fingertips, with the rest of the bag running up your inner forearm. Now, slide your whole arm into the pillow cover and then let go. It's much easier than trying to squash it in!
